Quick Write: Workhouse
Workhouse is basically a factory-like places that employees people that are not able to find jobs better than this. The origins of the workhouse can be traced to the Poor Law Act of 1388, which tried to address the labour shortages by restricting the movement of labourers, and made the state responsible for the support of the poor. Then, after war with the French came the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution lead to new inventions and made many machines that changes British's life. The original Poor law is to help support the poor in the country, the new Poor Law pushes the people to work at workhouses. These workhouses first started developing in the Great Britain, then spread to the other countries that also started their industrial revolution.
